Home < Boarding < Discipline

It is necessary to maintain a high standard of discipline and sense of responsibility in a boarding situation. Girls are encouraged to be self-disciplined - particularly at study time, and the guidelines that have been set out in this booklet are designed to indicate the boundaries.
Every person in the Boarding House must show respect towards students and staff at all times. Students must be trustworthy and honest in all that they do and say. If breaches of conduct occur they will be dealt with, firstly, by the Housemother, then, if there is no improvement or if a major infringement occurs, by the Head of Boarding and perhaps the Principal. For minor infringements, a sanction such as exclusion from an outing may be imposed. Serious or continual infringements, for example, smoking, use or possession of alcohol or drugs, leaving the College grounds without permission, bullying or racial discrimination, will be followed by suspension and possibly exclusion from the Boarding House and, possibly, the College.
Self-discipline does not come automatically to the young, it is an art which must be learned and practised so that they are able to exercise true self-discipline in responding to situations that will arise throughout their lives. The behaviour we expect of our students gives a sense of what is acceptable and is a mark of responsible young Christian womanhood.
