The Head of Year’s (HOY) role is very important in coordinating Pastoral Care. Each HOY is responsible for looking after the needs of an entire Year group. They assist the form teachers, staff and parents in ensuring that all students in their Year group are happy, healthy, working well and taking advantage of the opportunities Iona has to offer. In cases where several teachers are concerned about a particular student, or a student’s parents are concerned about several aspects of their daughter's school life, the Head of Year will take control of the issue (as opposed to the form teachers).

The Heads of Year also deliver a Pastoral Care program that is catered to suit the needs of the girls in their Year group. This program is delivered during Year Level Assemblies. The Head of Year decides on the program given students’ age, interests, problems and theme that the Year group has adopted. Frequently, guest speakers are invited, specific pastoral care programs are delivered, or inter-form competitions take place.

In 2009 the Heads of Year are:

Year 7:            Mrs Lucy Sabatini
Year 8:            Mrs Julie Mernagh
Year 9:            Miss Emma Colgan
Year 10:          Mr Craig Doyle
Year 11:          Mrs Linda Archer
Year 12:          Mrs Joan Easton
