Year 8 students reflect on 'just' leadership
What does it mean to be a 'just' leader?
This is what our Year 8 girls discussed at their Reflection Day on Tuesday 2 May.
Sonja Pribicevic and Sigrid Harban Guttinger share their thoughts on the day below.
On Tuesday 2 May, the Year 8 students went to the Cottesloe Civic Centre for Reflection Day. The theme for the day was Being 'Just' Leaders. A member of Caritas Australia spoke to us about different cultures, the world, poverty, refugees and global issues. We also completed the poverty quiz, where we learnt about the number of people that are without education or water. It was a very enjoyable day and it opened our eyes to the world and how privileged we are to live in such a safe country.

This fun, lively day included enjoyable activities and important learning experiences. We were guided through the day by an experienced volunteer from Caritas Australia. From her we learnt about crucial and topical world-wide issues ranging from the lack of needed resources to the increase of global warming. Throughout the day we contributed different thoughts and ideas between our groups, which then helped us to reflect on ourselves and gain an understanding on how to help others in need. We watched various heart-warming and inspirational clips that showcased powerful feelings and opinions on the topics we were looking at. These encouraged us to take action and try to help in whatever ways we can. At the end of the day we packed our bags and boarded the buses with newly found experiences, knowledge, opinions and confidence in ourselves to give something back to the world around us.
