Year 7s learn the value of kindness
Everyone we meet is facing some kind of challenge we know nothing about. A simple smile or act of kindness might make their whole day, and it costs us nothing. This important message was shared with the Year 7s at their latest YLA where we focused on kindness; its importance, how to become kinder and what to do if people around us are not being kind.
Research shows that repeated acts of kindness can make you happier, can improve your immune system and health, can lower the rate of depression and can create the feeling of 'emotional warmth,' producing oxytocin which in turn helps reduce blood pressure and protects the heart.
Given its importance, the Year 7s are adopting the three 'C's – where we will try to be courteous, courageous and compassionate in our daily lives.
The Year 7s are also celebrating 'random acts of kindness,' with our small and deliberate actions making a difference to those around them. We look forward to sharing these with you in the next Ionian.
Our overall message was that kindness matters, and kindness multiplies exponentially when we all contribute to it.
"Let us learn to live with kindness, to love everyone, even when they do not love us." — Pope Francis
