Bell Shakespeare Theatre Performance inspires Year 9 students
Witty, entertaining and informative, this Bell Shakespeare performance was not your average presentation.
On 24 July, the Year 9 classes gathered in Nagle Hall, not knowing what to expect from the professional acting company who specialise in enlightening entertainment from the Elizabethan Era.
"It was very entertaining and engaging, it made learning Shakespeare fun. It was really interesting to see the play put into a modern context," said Abigail Morris, 9 Columba.
The Year 9 students have been studying Romeo and Juliet for some time now, and in addition to their hard work during class and thorough research of the Elizabethan Period, the year group was able to enjoy an educational performance with a humorous side.
Performed in 'acts', each of which revolved around different skills and themes in Shakespeare's plays, such as 'How to Die in Shakespeare' and 'How to Fall in Love in Shakespeare', the students were given a thorough experience of what time was really like in the 1500s. A bonus of the performance was its burlesque feel, mixed in with cheeky slapstick comedy.
Those eager to immerse themselves even more, found the chance to get on stage and further their understanding of Shakespeare's writing style.
The performance was one the students are unlikely to forget, but best of all, they now have a clear understanding of Shakespeare, the real aim of the production.
