Iona Presentation College

Year 11 Accounting students inspired by Past Pupils

The Year 11 Accounting class enjoyed a trip to the Institute of Chartered Accountants ANZ office recently.

The group spoke with the staff about their experiences, careers and what it's like becoming a Chartered Accountant.

We were first welcomed by Christy, the office manager, who showed us to the conference room where we were treated a delicious morning tea.

Our MC for the day, Ms Caroline Bryne, introduced us to our first speaker, Aymee Mastaglia (an ex-Ionian!) Mrs Mastaglia showed us her old tan blazer and a 90s College annual, where we discovered photographs of teachers past and present! She then explained to us what being a Chartered Accountant was and some current projects they were working on.

Surprisingly enough, the next speaker was another ex-Ionian, Ms Janelle Keightley, who now works for KPMG as a tax advisor. Ms Keightley spoke to us about the value of her Iona Accounting class and how important it is to get work experience while at university.

Our last speaker, Miss Jane Ayre, was a very impressive speaker who works for Korda Mentha as an insolvency expert. Miss Ayre spoke about gender issues in the work place and then talked about the importance of having a leadership role model to understand how to manage issues.

Overall, the girls had a great morning in the city and a big thank you to Mr Simon for driving us there and Mr Phillips for organising the trip.
