Iona Hosts CEWA Primary Arts Professional Development Day
Iona Presentation College was delighted to host the CEWA Primary Arts Professional Development Day, welcoming Visual and Performing Arts teachers from Catholic schools across Western Australia for a day of creativity, collaboration and professional learning.
The day was facilitated by Iona’s Director of Performing Arts, Jackson Bennett-Surtees, in his role as Arts Curriculum Leader for Catholic Education Western Australia.
Jackson led a session focused on supporting students to regulate and be ready for learning in Arts classrooms. The session explored a range of relational strategies, routines and practical approaches that Visual and Performing Arts teachers can embed in their classrooms to help students feel safe, connected and prepared to engage creatively.
Throughout the day, Iona staff also shared their expertise by leading a range of practical workshops. Junior School Art Teacher, Cara O’Neil, facilitated a collaborative art session that encouraged creativity and connection. Junior School Music Coordinator, Andy Stewart, led an energetic music workshop filled with singing, movement and instruments. Dance Teacher, Lauchlan Bain, facilitated a Dance and Drama workshop that had participants up on their feet, moving, creating and exploring practical strategies for the classroom.
The professional development day was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the strength of the Arts at Iona, while also supporting the ongoing growth of Primary Arts teachers across CEWA. We are proud to contribute to professional learning opportunities that strengthen Arts education and inspire creativity in classrooms across Catholic schools.
