The Innovation Festival – Inspiring our Year 9 and 10 students
In celebration of Gifted Awareness Week, our Year 9 and 10 students took part in The Innovation Festival. Held at SciTech, the students experienced the latest advances in STEM, including Virtual Reality and Bionics - where we are now and where we are going.
The girls engaged with a variety of innovative technology, were enlightened by guest speaker Vee Prendergast from Stirfire Studios and spoke with university representatives about the prospect of studying STEM based courses.
At Iona presentation College, we place a great emphasis on STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.)
Research shows that only one in four IT graduates and fewer than one in 10 engineering graduates are women. Further, women occupy fewer than one in five senior researcher positions in Australian universities and research institutes, and around one quarter of the STEM workforce overall.
The need for woman in these fields is evident and we are dedicated to inspiring and preparing our girls for careers in STEM based occupations.
