A great weekend at Music Camp
More than 160 music students travelled to Swanleigh Adventure Camp to commence our annual Music Camp over the weekend.
Music camp was established as a way to work towards the many performances in the Term 3 Music calendar, including the upcoming Music Night on 10 August and the Catholic Schools' Performing Arts Festival.
Throughout the camp, students participated in many masterclasses and tutorial sessions which increased our music capabilities and ensemble work. We were lucky to have Mr Neil Coy (skilled conductor of numerous ensembles and professional trombonist) on camp with us to provide us with his wealth of knowledge in many areas. Many of us learned new breathing techniques and posture which improved the quality of our sound – a big thank you to you Mr Coy!
On Saturday, everyone had the opportunity to be taught body percussion and rhythm work by Mr Jackson Vickery, Iona's percussion teacher. It was such a rare and important opportunity to study rhythms and different ways to look at our musical studies. We were very fortunate to have this opportunity – thank you Mr Vickery!
On the final night the Year 12s put on the highly anticipated Music Camp quiz to test the knowledge of the students and teachers alike. This was a very competitive event and was rightly finished with a dance battle. I am sure that the girls enjoyed this!
I think it is fair to say that everyone enjoyed the camp, especially the food provided by the wonderful Swanleigh Staff. I would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Pitos and the College Leadership Team for continuing to provide this amazing opportunity for us to develop our musical endeavours.
The camp would not have been possible without the wonderful music staff – thank you to Ms Kingwell, Mrs Lamborn, Mrs McLarty, and all the other staff and music tutors who accompanied us including Dr Wright, Mr Kidd, Mr Collinson, Mr Soares, Ms Beekink, Ms Moore, Mr Pervan, Mrs Ross and finally the maintenance team for their on-going support and skilful 'truck packing'.
