Gifted & Talented

The Gifted & Talented program at Iona aims to identify and cater for those highly able, gifted or talented students who would benefit from extension and enrichment activities, within the classroom curriculum and through co-curricular activities. The intention is to provide extension and enrichment appropriate to each student's ability, maturity and individual strengths throughout their schooling.

Within the curriculum, lessons are differentiated to cater for the varying needs of the class and core subjects also offer advanced classes in Years 8, 9 and 10.

Further curriculum adjustment is possible
for students working at a level beyond the advanced class. Where curriculum adjustment is significant, a Curriculum Adjustment Plan is created for the student's specific needs in a subject(s). A diagnosed gifted child, would be placed on an Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Gifted students need time to work with like-minds. At Iona, co-curricular opportunities for highly able, gifted and talented young women are provided through a variety
of in-school and out-of-school enrichment and extension opportunities.

Individual opportunities include the Young Writers' Days, Academy conferences (junior and senior), international competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS), and Australian Mathematics Challenge. Iona also participates
in team events, encouraging collaboration and flexible learning opportunities such as da Vinci Decathlon for Years 7-10, SciTech Brain Storm Challenge and The World Scholars Cup.
