Street Art for Iona Presentation College
Stormie Mills and Anya Brock were the subjects of discussion during an Urban Art Workshop held at Iona Presentation College recently.
Iona Presentation College are inspiring future artists with Urban Art Workshops, introducing students to the exciting world of urban art. Students learn to use 'street art' inspired mediums and techniques, incorporating spray paint and the use of markers.
"Street Art is great because it isn't as detailed, it's more free flowing and you can be really creative," said Bridget Walter (Year 8).
"You can really express yourself with Street Art. It doesn't have to be perfect like your more traditional forms of art, you create what you want," said Emma Donald (Year 8).
The girls have been provided with blank customisable objects including blank sculptures, figurines, and skateboard decks for their designs. For inspiration, they have examined some of Australia's most prominent street artists and their collections of work.
Aimed at Year 8 students, the workshop provides a great opportunity for the girls to be exposed to current trends in contemporary art.
"We want to build the students' passion towards art so they can continue to strengthen their skills and progress as artists of the future" said Jordan Andreotta, Art teacher.
"These workshops will be continued throughout the year, with the goal for students to create an eye catching, street art inspired mural for the campus."
