Technology & Applied Studies

The Technology and Applied Studies learning area allows students to extend themselves across a wide variety of practical-related areas. Each student is welcomed to be involved in one or more of the courses on offer within the Foods, Textiles or Child Development areas.

The courses have a practical and hands on approach and relate to the processes of applying knowledge, skills and resources to satisfy human needs and wants, extending capabilities and realising opportunities. Students use resources, including materials (both raw and processed), tools and machines, knowledge, skills and experiences to create products and meet design criteria.

These courses examine development and developmental needs, social belief systems, the family, values, and resources that support daily living. Students learn, how to care for themselves, others and the environment in which they live.

Creating opportunities to engage with industry and the community is an important focus of the learning area, through guest speakers, excursions, incursions and tours; students immerse themselves in these creative technology courses.
