Iona Presentation College

We teach our students to 'read the word and the world' and we aim to give students a wide and varied exposure to the kinds of texts and modes of communication that already are, and will continue to be, influences in their lives.

Girls studying English at Iona can:

  • participate in, and are exposed to, numerous outside activities such as Oracy, Bell Shakespeare, creative writing competitions and can participate in the Western Australian Debating League competition
  • take advantage of the cross-curricular unit of study with SOSE in Year 7
  • be part of streamed classes in Years 9 and 10 which allow for specialised units of study
  • study Readers' Theatre, poetry performance and Shakespeare Mock Trials as part of poetry and drama text.

The study of English helps students express themselves clearly and effectively in written and spoken forms, but English is also a discipline that can inspire and motivate students to live their lives with confidence and purpose. It has the potential to change the way we see the world.
